The 2022 Vincent Wengier Bourgogne Chardonnay is a fabulous 100% Chardonnay made from fruit that comes from Chablis! This tiny family-owned and operated winery is run by Vincent Wengier who is a fourth-generation Chablis producer. This winery has converted to ALL ORGANIC VITICULTURE since 2020 and their official certification came this year. This new 2022 release is flinty and electrically charged with a juicy core of citrus that underlies crisp apple and pear fruits laced with chalky mineral notes and a deeply intense mid-palate of peach and apricot! There is a hint of creaminess on the finish and a gorgeously surging succulence we loved when our entire staff tasted it.

Vincent Wengier Description

Vincent Wengier is a fourth-generation Chablis winemaker who, along with his wife, Sophie, has produced wine under his name since 2018. Domaine Vincent Wengier was first established in 1950 and is located in the southwest region of the appellation, in the village of Préhy, two hours southeast of Paris.

The Wengiers manage 27 hectares of vines, spread over four appellations. They hold HVE (high environmental value) certification to promote fauna and flora within the vineyard. Their careful attention to detail in the vineyards has also earned them organic certification, effective in 2023.

The vineyard’s soil is Kimmeridgian, which is a defining feature of the Chablis appellation. Kimmeridgian marl is a mix of limestone and clay in which fossilized creatures of an ancient sea are embedded.

The vines are grown in narrow rows, which are weeded four to five times a year. After a mechanical harvest, the grapes are quickly pressed to avoid any oxidation and maceration. The must is stored in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats for a long, slow alcoholic fermentation. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is left to rest on its fine lees for eight to ten months. The winemaker prefers to use no oak.

Domaine Vincent Wengier uses environmentally friendly practices. The Vincent Wengier vineyard has been certified HVE (high environmental value). 2020 is the first year of conversion of the vineyard to organic farming.
The regional Burgundy appellation plots are located on the edge of the Chablis vineyard, where the soil is clay-limestone. The subsoil varies between Portlandian and Kimmeridgian vineyards.
The average age of the vines is 10 years. The aging potential is 5 years.
The ideal drinking temperature is about 12 to 14°C.
