The 2023 Boyer de Bar Chardonnay opens with bright, lifted aromas of white peach, Meyer lemon, and crisp green apple layered with subtle hints of acacia and wet stone. On the palate it strikes a beautiful balance of freshness and texture. The fruit is clean and pure, supported by a gentle creaminess from well-judged lees contact. A thread of salinity runs through the mid palate, giving the wine tension and length. The finish is long and precise with lingering notes of citrus peel and a whisper of toasted hazelnut.
Vincent Boyer, now at the helm of Boyer-Martenot, has made the estate one of Meursault’s top White Burgundy producers. While the winery focuses on Meursault and other top sites like Puligny-Montrachet and Gevrey-Chambertin, a new project in France’s Hérault Valley—sparked by a collaboration with Emmanuel Lucas De Bar—has resulted in a stunning Chardonnay.
Made from organically farmed grapes, harvested in Hérault and vinified in Meursault using the same methods as Boyer's top cuvées, this wine sees native yeast fermentation, 12 months in oak, and 8 more in concrete egg. The result? A wine that drinks like “Baby Meursault” at a fraction of the price.
