The gorgeous 2016 Chateau Linot Saint-Estephe is a Cab-heavy Left Bank red that comes from a TINY .4 hectare vineyard that used to be part of the famous "super second" Cos d'Estournel! The owner of this family enterprise is a former artisan carpenter that has worked on some of the most famous Bordeaux wineries including Cos. When he inherited the tiny plot from his grandfather, owner Yohan Juste asked his neighbors at Cos if they would let him make his first wines at their estate and he was off and running! He named the winery Linot after the songbirds that he remembers singing whenever he visited his grandfather as a child. This estate is the SMALLEST IN THE LEFT BANK region of Bordeaux! This parcel is literally sandwiched between Cos d'Estournel and Cos Labory on the famous Cos plateau.
Rocky soils impart structure and complexity to this fabulous blend of 70% Cabernet and 30% Merlot with most of the vines now older than 40 years. They only make 4000 bottles of this wine and it is just loaded with black currant and blackberry fruit laced with licorice, smoked meat, lead pencil, and beautiful spice notes. This wine is muscular yet very pretty and the quality of the historic 2016 vintage is here in spades.
