We've been fans of Keith Emerson's wines for years - Vineyard 29, Emerson Brown, and Robert Craig are his current projects, all of them perennial favorites on the Meritage shelves. Keith's Cabernets have a luscious, approachable style that makes our mouths water, but you may not be as familiar with his white wines, so today we've got a delicious example from his pet project, atLarge!
While many of Keith's winemaking projects center on Napa Valley, atLarge is a chance for him to reach outside of Napa. It started with an invitation from Andy Beckstoffer (of To Kalon fame) to be one of 10 Napa winemakers to work at his new Cabernet vineyard project in Lake County. Excited by the opportunity to explore new terroir, Emerson expanded atLarge to include a Chardonnay from the Willamette Valley and this Sauvignon Blanc from the Russian River Valley. Lime blossom, ripe golden grapefruit, and lemon verbena jump out of the glass, with a satiny texture greeted by flavors of creme fraiche and chive and a finish that goes on for days.
