Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky, consultants to some of Napa’s most
highly regarded vineyards, had full control of winemaking and blending of
the Legend. Like his critically acclaimed 2016 and 2017 Legend, their
goal was to craft this proprietary blend, bringing together the best from our
own biodynamically farmed Estate, Annadel Gap Vineyard, complimented
with specially sourced organic and sustainable wines from Sonoma County
and Napa Valley. The wine was fermented in closed-top stainless steel tanks,
open-top stainless steel tanks, and a French oak upright tank, with an average
of 15% whole cluster pressed, 3 days cold soak and 18 days on skins. Aged in
40% new French oak for 20 months.
The 2019 Proprietary Red Wine Legend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah, 8% Counoise, and the rest Grenache and Tannat, sourced from Sonoma County. This spicy, textured, herbal (although not green) effort has lots of red and black fruits, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. It’s a character-filled, satisfying red to drink over the coming 7-8 years.
