Also impressive, the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap Reserve combines elegance and power with lots of loamy soil, creme de cassis, vanilla and spice box characteristics. Medium to full-bodied with admirable purity, texture and length as well as an overall harmonious, stylish, Margaux-like personality.
Much better than Reynold’s Napa bottling. Maybe it’s Stags Leap, maybe block selection, but it’s a true reserve, richer, denser, and more concentrated, complex and rewarding. Deep in cassis and plum fruit, it’s quite a tannic wine. Hold until 2007 and beyond.
Smoky, leathery aromas, with blackberry, lead pencil and herbal notes. Flavors show good complexity...Best after 2007. 330 cases made.
