The 2019 Rancho Vinedo 'Dona Martina' Chardonnay is owned by James Ontiveros, a 9th-generation manager of his family's vineyard. That means that the land this vineyard sits on has been in the same family's hands, although not always owned, since 1781. That was before California was a part of the United States! Ontiveros enlisted accomplished winemaker Justin Willet of Tyler Wines in 2016. The 2019 Rancho Vinedo Dona Martina Chardonnay comes from the Rancho Vinedo Vineyard and was first planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in 1973. This is own-rooted old-vine Chardonnay at its finest! Deeply intense and expressive with waves of crisp apple and peach fruits over lemon curd and Meyer lemon that give that perfect combination of racy, juicy citrus and lovely hints of richer orchard fruit at the core. This gem is accented with the perfect kiss of French oak spice and toasted vanilla that elevates this to a truly world-class white!
The 2019 Chardonnay Dona Martina is wonderfully classy and polished from start to finish. Lemon-peel, dried flowers, chamomile and white pepper give this airy, mid-weight Chardonnay tons of personality. A hint of French oak works well in adding just enough texture to fill out the mid-palate. This is such a classy wine.
