The 2021 Podernuovo a Palazzone 'Therra' Toscana Rosso is owned by the Bulgari family whose famous luxury jewelry firm is now owned by LVMH. This estate is the passion project of Giovanni Bulgari. This is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot! This powerhouse wine was aged in French barriques for 10 months, then in cement tanks for 6 months before bottling. This will age another 12 months in bottle. The wine is a beautifully vivid, saturated purple red color in the glass. This nose is pure and fresh with black cherry, blackberry, and raspberry notes with darker licorice and chocolate tones that open with a few swirls of the glass. This is a mouth-filling but vibrant wine that is velvety with ripe and powerful tannins.
Ripe and very fresh at the same time. I like the grilled thyme, garrigue, stones and graphite characters laid upon the berries and cherries on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate with nice tension in the middle, connecting the fresh entry to a mineral, medium-long finish. Delicious now, but will drink well in the next five to six years.
The 2021 Therra is a tasty, entry-level offering. Succulent red/purplish fruit, rose petals, mint and white pepper give this mid-weight Tuscan red lovely brightness and energy. All the elements are very nicely balanced.
