McLaren Vale- a living, breathing expression of Australian wine heritage, innovation, and terroir.

McLaren Vale, located just 40 minutes south of Adelaide in South Australia, stands as one of the world’s most distinguished and dynamic wine regions. With a winemaking history dating back to the 1830s, it is celebrated globally for its premium-quality Shiraz, alongside exceptional expressions of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Mediterranean varietals such as Fiano, Vermentino, and Tempranillo.

The region’s rich tapestry of over 40 distinct soil types—some among the oldest on Earth—combined with a temperate Mediterranean climate, creates an ideal terroir for crafting wines of depth, character, and elegance. McLaren Vale’s winemakers are renowned for their commitment to sustainability, biodynamics, and minimal-intervention practices, producing wines that are as thoughtful as they are expressive of place.

Home to over 80 cellar doors, from historic estates to innovative boutique producers, McLaren Vale offers an intimate and immersive tasting experience. Visitors can explore a landscape where vine rows meet ocean breezes, and where each vintage reflects the nuance of its environment. The region’s diverse topography and proximity to the coast allow for stylistic versatility, resulting in wines with freshness, structure, and a distinct sense of identity.

Oliverhill Description

Oliverhill Winery is a boutique, family-owned estate nestled in the heart of McLaren Vale, South Australia. Established in 1973 and revitalized in 1993 by Stuart and Linda Miller, the winery spans 13 hectares of meticulously tended vineyards, including a 5-acre Shiraz block known as the "Jimmy Section." The estate is renowned for producing premium, limited-production red wines that embody the unique terroir of the region.

Jimmy Section Shiraz: Sourced from a single 5-acre block of 49-year-old vines, this wine showcases the depth and complexity of McLaren Vale Shiraz. It offers flavors of crushed blackberry, mulberry, exotic spices, and sandalwood, with a smooth and balanced finish.

Wine Advocate: 93 Points

Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points

The 2006 Jimmy Section is made in a rich, syrupy style, but does it have enough structure to improve with age? The dense blackberry and blueberry fruit carries its 15.5% alcohol well—at least for the moment—and there are some attractive peppery, herbal complexities that make for intersting drinking right now, so why wait?
