The name “G17” refers to one of Monterey County's best known route, linking several of our grape growing appellations.
The wine was fermented in open top tanks and received daily punch-downs. This enabled optimal extraction and structure development, while maintaining elegant tannins. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to French oak barrels. The 20% new oak gives the wine subtle spice and vanilla characters, without overpowering the elegant fruit profile.
This Rhone-style blend has a garnet color highlighted with purple edges. Aromas of brambly black fruit, raspberry hard candy, and hints of savory spice jump out of the glass. The wine is medium-plus bodied with crisp acidity, offering flavors of purple fruits and smoked meat. Its weight and balance make it a perfect pairing with anything off the grill.
This is a fresh, fun and yet still elegant Syrah that’s quite affordable. Aromas of black raspberry and light purple flowers show on the nose of this wine that includes 8% Mourvèdre and 6% Grenache. The palate packs in dark strawberry, raspberry, rose and violet flavors into a seamless package.
The 2021 Syrah G17 is a brooding, intense wine, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. Dried herbs, menthol, licorice, lavender and blackberry all open in the glass. This is an especially earthy, savory style, with fruit that sits more in the background. Dollops of Mourvèdre and Grenache round out the blend.
