The 2019 Maritana 'Martealla Vineyard' Pinot Noir is gloriously rich and packed with black cherry and dark berry compote, cola, and hints of earth and tobacco layered with exotic spice and a kiss of semi-sweet chocolate. This wine exhibits mouth-filling fruit over muscular yet seamless glassy tannins.
Owner Donald Patz started this tiny-production winery after he sold his famous Patz & Hall winery in 2017 and immediately started bringing home top scores from the critics and today's beauty got a big 93pt score from Wine Enthusiast. This single vineyard wine of only 100 cases produced comes from the Martaella Vineyard which is home to the Benovia Winery in the Russian River located at about 200 feet of elevation. Aged in 80% new French Oak, this wine is all hand-made with only native yeast fermentation and 50% whole cluster included to add dimension, spice, and power. This beauty is fresh and pure.
Farmed by the folks at Benovia Winery, this supple, structured wine offers an intensity of dense berry fruit and baking spice, with lingering notes of cola and tea. Rich and rewarding in style, it delivers lengthy lushness and a broad appeal.
Coming from a site in the Russian River Valley, the 2019 Pinot Noir Martaella Vineyard has a rich, more savory style in its ripe red plum and darker cherry fruits as well as notes of scorched earth, leather, and Asian spices. Nicely textured as well as structured on the palate, it has notable overall balance and solid length on the finish. It should easily evolve for 4-5 years.
