100% Syrah. The 2018 vintage in the Northern Rhône delivered wines of ripeness, concentration, and generous aromatics. Ample sunshine and favorable harvest conditions resulted in Syrah of depth and richness, while careful winemaking preserved balance and finesse.
Aromas of ripe red berries, black cherry, and raspberry layered with cedar, spice, and subtle floral notes of violet. Medium-to-full bodied with silky tannins and an expansive texture. Flavors of dark fruit, spice, and mocha carry through to a long, elegant finish. Powerful yet refined, showcasing the hallmark elegance of Vernay’s winemaking.
Best from 2023 through 2035. Ideal with roasted lamb, game birds, braised beef, or dishes featuring earthy mushrooms and herbs.
The 2018 Cote Rotie Maison Rouge emanates from a selection of vines planted in the 1950s—the balance of the domaine's plantings in this lieu-dit go into the blended Blonde de Seigneur bottling. It's all Syrah, with about 30% vinified as whole clusters, and matured in 20% new oak. Hints of cedar and wood spice join red berries and cherries on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate features ample depth, silky tannins and an expansive feel. The finish adds a hint of mocha and some sturdy tannins, so give it several years in the bottle.
