The 2021 vintage will be remembered for low yields with intensely flavored small berries. The result is intensely flavored wines and another amazing vintage from Napa Valley.
VINIFICATION
This 100% Chardonnay is whole-cluster sorted, immediately pressed then directly transferred to barrel. The wine remains in barrel for primary and secondary fermentation, then aged for 15 months in 25% new Francois Freres French oak barrels.
NOTES: The 2021 Gemstone Vineyard Chardonnay is 100% heirloom selection Dijon clone. The grapes were hand-harvested early in the season giving the wine fresh, lively acidity, yet it is unmistakably fruit-forward and true to its Yountville terroir.
This richly elegant wine is vibrant and crisp with aromas of honeysuckle, tropical fruit, lemon zest and toasted almonds. It finishes with a creamy, round mouthfeel balanced by a touch of minerality.
