A standout expression from Fairchild Estate’s revered Pritchard Hill vineyards, the 2018 Stones No. 2 Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the powerful yet elegant character of mountain-grown Napa fruit. This wine is crafted from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, highlighting deep concentration, layered complexity, and the intense minerality that defines Fairchild’s Stones series.
On pouring, the wine shows a deep purple-black core with an expressive aromatic profile of crème de cassis, toasted spices, dark chocolate, and crushed rock notes that echo the volcanic soils of its Perrarus Block 2 origin. The palate is full-bodied and richly textured with seductive dark fruit layers, refined tannins, and striking mineral tension that culminates in a long, perfumed finish of blackcurrant, blackberry pie, and subtle tobacco spice.
Also from a site on Pritchard Hill, yet from a different parcel, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Stones No. 2 offers a more restrained, powerful style that carries loads of crème de cassis, toasted spiced, coffee, chocolate, and crushed rock-like minerality. Deep, full-bodied, and layered on the palate, this is a heavenly, gorgeously balanced beauty that has everything you could want from a mountain Cabernet.
Deep purple-black colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Stones No. 2 rolls effortlessly out of the glass with notes of tobacco leaf, pencil lead, cardamom and hoisin, over a core of blackcurrant cordial, blackberry pie and redcurrant jelly. The full-bodied palate delivers beautiful tension and seductively ripe, silt-like tannins, supporting the red and black fruit layers, finishing very long and perfumed. Impressive! Aged in 100% new French oak, the fruit here comes from Block 2 of the the estate-owned Perrarus vineyard, located on Pritchard Hill.
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Stones No. 2 is another extravagantly rich wine. The No. 2 is also the ripest wine in this range. Blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice, spice, new leather, cloves and licorice saturate the palate. There is impressive depth and concentration here, even if the tannins are not as finessed as in the other wines, while the alcohol is a bit pronounced. The No. 2 is a blend across the various blocks Fairchild sources from at his Paramus Vineyard (formerly Montagna) on Pritchard Hill.
