Emerson Brown Wines was born in 2005 when both Keith Emerson and Brian Brown were first working together on the winemaking team at Vineyard 29. Keith has been the Director of Winemaking at Vineyard 29 and now has 17 vintages under his belt, crafting some of the most collectible and highest-scoring wines in all of Napa Valley. Brian Brown was the winemaker at Round Pond from 2007 to 2014 during the time that the winery exploded into the forefront of the Napa scene. Together, the two friends decided to use their combined vineyard contacts and expertise to craft their own small-production wines.
The 2021 Emerson Brown Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark purple-red brick color in the glass. The nose is a blend of sweet blackberry and black cherry notes with red currants and wild strawberry notes that ring a juicy high note in this new release. Hints of rose petals and licorice waft in and create a perfumed spiced berry and black currant aroma that is framed with a hint of toasted vanilla oak and dark chocolate. This is a plush, chewy Cabernet that fills the mouth with dark-red berries and a touch of fresh herb and earth that makes the wine wonderfully complex. The tannin is polished but well-muscled and the entire wine has a seamless, well-knit character that just glides across the palate. This vintage drinks great right from the instant you pull the cork but it's got the power to cellar for years.
