The 2022 Ehret Family Estate Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted by Erin Green, who is also consulting winemaker at Martinelli. She’s been working with Ehret since 2015, and her signature style shines through here—producing bold, textured wines with refined edges and remarkable depth.
This wine comes from the Bavarian Lion Vineyard, a sustainably farmed, high-elevation site tucked between Calistoga and Alexander Valley, right next to the legendary Peter Michael Winery. It’s a warm, rugged location ranging from 400 to 800 feet in elevation, and it yields fruit with incredible intensity and complexity.
The 2022 blend is composed of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and just a dash of Malbec. The wine was aged for 18 months in 100% French oak, 59% of it new, giving it polish, richness, and a luxurious texture.
In the glass, this Cab is dark and powerful with a dense purple-black hue. It opens with deep aromas of blackberry compote, blueberry jam, graphite, and cocoa. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and mouth-filling, layered with chocolate-covered cherries, wild sage, brambly herbs, toasted cedar, and savory spice. It’s a broad-shouldered wine with firm, ripe tannins that promise another decade or more of aging potential. As it opens up, you’ll notice waves of red currant, wild strawberry, blue florals, and a touch of Madagascar vanilla, all riding on a core of pure dark fruit that carries through to a long, beautifully structured finish.
