The new 2022 Dragonette Cellars Happy Canyon Sauvignon Blanc is a beautifully crafted white that is vivacious, clean, fresh, and wildly complex.
Dragonette Cellars was founded in 2005 by Winemaker Brandon Sparks-Gillis and brothers John and Steve Dragonette. Brandon's early winemaking path led him to learn the craft of winemaking at some of the top wineries in the world including Sine Qua Non in California and Torbreck in Australia, and his partnership with the Dragonette brothers settled on the cool edges of Santa Barbara County. They work with small, unique vineyard sites that they have long-term contracts with to have farmed to crazy-high standards and precision.
The 2022 Dragonette Happy Canyon Sauvignon Blanc comes from four vineyard sites in Santa Barbara that are bio-dynamically and organically farmed with no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. This wine was fermented using only native yeasts and aged in a combination of 90% neutral oak and 10% stainless steel. This wine features waves of fresh lemon zest, crisp white peach, and spicy green apple notes. Hints of flinty mineral and a touch of summer herb add complexity. In the mouth, this Sauvignon is zippy and crisp but that aging in neutral oak adds texture and a balanced roundness that takes things up several big notches and makes this one seriously wonderful bottle.
