Barolo DOCG is one of Italy’s most prestigious wine appellations, produced exclusively from 100% Nebbiolo in a small group of communes in Piedmont, including Serralunga d’Alba, La Morra, and Monforte d’Alba. Often called the “King of Wines,” Barolo is defined by its combination of power, structure, and aromatic complexity. Nebbiolo’s naturally high tannin and acidity give Barolo its signature ability to age, while long, traditional aging requirements (a minimum of 38 months, including time in oak) allow the wines to develop layers of rose petal, tar, red fruit, earth, and spice. Domenico Clerico’s Barolo Aeroplan Servaj 2018 is a standout expression of Barolo from Serralunga d’Alba, the subzone known for producing some of the appellation’s most structured and age-worthy wines.
