Domaine de Montille – Volnay 1er Cru Les Taillepieds 2005 is a distinguished Pinot Noir from Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, crafted by Domaine de Montille, a winery renowned for its commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The estate has been practicing organic farming since 1995 and biodynamic farming since 2005, with Ecocert certification achieved in 2012.
The Les Taillepieds vineyard, spanning 1.51 hectares, is situated mid-slope with a southeast exposure, characterized by light brown clay soils interspersed with small gravel stones. The name "Taillepieds" translates to "cut feet," referencing the sharp stones that historically lacerated the feet of vineyard workers.
The 2005 vintage was vinified using 100% whole bunches and aged for 18 to 20 months in barrels, with 35% new oak. The wine is noted for its aromatic purity, balance, and elegance, reflecting the estate's philosophy of producing wines with great aromatic expression and silkier textures.
Critics have lauded the 2005 Les Taillepieds for its complexity and aging potential. The Wine Advocate awarded it 94-95 points, highlighting its ripe, spiced black fruits and mineral notes. Burghound rated it 92-95 points, noting its exceptional elegance and purity.
This wine is celebrated for its ability to age gracefully, offering a harmonious blend of fruit and minerality that evolves over time.
