The 2023 Viré-Clessé “Les Raspillères” is a vibrant and precise expression of southern Burgundy Chardonnay. The color is pale gold with subtle green highlights, reflecting its freshness. On the nose, it opens with bright white peach, pear, and Meyer lemon, accompanied by delicate floral notes of acacia and hints of honeyed almond. There is a striking mineral undertone reminiscent of wet stone and crushed chalk that gives the wine immediate lift and energy.
On the palate, the wine is elegantly structured with a creamy, silky texture that balances its bright, lively acidity. Flavors of citrus, white orchard fruit, and lightly toasted almond unfold seamlessly alongside a backbone of chalky minerality and subtle spice. The finish is long and refined, with a persistent brightness and a touch of herbal nuance that keeps the wine focused and layered.
This is a Viré-Clessé of finesse and depth, showing purity and energy while delivering a satisfying richness. It is delicious now but will also reward careful cellaring for several years, developing even greater complexity over time.
