The 2016 Chateau Fourcas-Borie is a blend of 68% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot, matured for 12 months in 20% new oak and the remainder one year old. I found more precision and intensity on the Fourcas-Borie compared to Bruno's other Listrac, Ducluzeau, quite floral with cassis and blueberry aromas developing in the glass. The palate is sweet on the entry with noticeable new oak at the moment, though that prudent 20% is totally in sync with the fruit. This is very sleek, silky to the touch with a slight graininess developing on the finish. It has great potential, although it deserves several years in bottle.
Giving up ripe, opulent even, notes of plums, cassis, and distinct minerality, the 2016 Château Fourcas-Borie is up there with the crème de la crème from Listrac! With medium to full-bodied richness, a mouth-filling texture, ripe tannin and a great finish, it should drink nicely right out of the gate, yet also age nicely. This wine also shows how strong 2016 was for the Left Bank. Bravo!
An bright array of wild red fruit on the nose, as well as cassis and tobacco, leading to the palate that has a fresh dark fruit core with the 15 per cent petit verdot adding grip at the punchy finish. Try from 2021.
