The 2022 Capanna 'SanGioBi' Toscana IGT Bianco is made from 100% Sangiovese which is known as Brunello in this famous appellation. Capanna is one of the top producers in the area. The winery was founded in 1957 and was one of the original 25 members of the Brunello Consortzio Del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. This historic property located in the heart of Montosoli enjoys some of the best terroir. This higher elevation site is planted on limestone rich clay soils that are perfect for Sangiovese but the higher elevation means there is a freshness and vibrancy to the fruit that caused the owners to want to try their hand at making a white wine which. This amazing white is all hand-harvested and made by pressing the de-stemmed Sangiovese off the skins almost immediately so as not to extract any color. The wine was fermented at very cold temperatures in stainless steel to preserve the freshness and vivid citrus fruits at its core but there is an opulence and richness to this wine that is almost textural! The wine was aged for a further 3 months in oak to add a hint of roundness that is the perfect touch of texture to give this wine depth. The color is a pale straw in the glass and the nose greets you with a beautiful array of fruits that range from citrusy lemon and tangerine to vivid orchard fruits of crisp apple, luscious pear and apricot. The wine is wonderfully vibrant and opulent with a juicy freshness up front that transitions to white peach and apple as this gem spins along on its wonderfully long and plush finish that almost makes you think of red apples and a hint of roasted cashew.
