A sleek and polished red, lively with raspberry and cherry flavors, persisting impressively on the finish with delicacy. Offers depth and enough tannins to want cellaring for best results.
The “disappearing tannins” observed in some 2010s here and elsewhere are not part of the picture in Bergstrom’s 2010 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard. That’s not to suggest that the phenolics here are obstreperous, but they are every evident. Lightly-cooked dark cherry and plum are tinged with dark chocolate and tactilely present brown spice and black pepper, while meaty and soy-like savor mouthwateringly underlie the wine’s sweet finishing fruit.
Bright cherry fruit is set against a backdrop of clean earth, while the young tannins are firm and focused. The wine carries balanced suggestions of leaf and herb, and will surely benefit from further bottle age.
