The 2016 Berceo Rioja Reserva is a Tempranillo-blend from the historic town of Haro in Rioja. The vineyards lie at higher elevations which makes the Tempranillo deeply expressive and richly intense. Smaller percentages of Garnacha and Graciano add a juicy lift of acidity and exotic spice notes that make this beauty sing! The winery was first founded in the mid-1800s by a Frenchman from Bordeaux who was looking to build a winery after the vineyards of France were destroyed by Phylloloxera. The historic gravity-fed winery is now in the hands of the fifth generation of the Fernández de Manzanos family. This is a traditional red that was aged in a combination of 70% French and 30% American oak. The nose jumps right out with beautifully detailed red cherry and plum fruits over darker currant and earthy aromas of tobacco, earth, and tangerine skin.
