The 2014 Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Boutière, from 70-year-old vines next to Santenay's premier cru of Clos de Rousseau, has a very delineated nose with raspberry and briary scents, nicely controlled and unfolding in the glass. The palate is well balanced with tart cherry fruit mixed with redcurrant and quite a noticeable black pepper aspect. The structure is very impressive here, with wonderful symmetry towards the finish that lingers. Who said Maranges cannot make top class wine?
Smooth and polished, offering black cherry, blackberry and spice flavors, with a hint of wood smoke. Balanced and persistent on the fresh, mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2024. 800 cases made.
