We wanted to share our LIMITED Cayuse Vineyards wines currently available in stock here at Meritage Wine Market Encinitas. Cayuse Vineyards wines are sold primarily to members on a mailing list as futures, a year before release, with a smaller portion reserved for select restaurants and wine shops. The wines, especially the reds, are known for their aging potential, typically maturing well over eight to fifteen years, depending on storage conditions. Check out our stock, which includes several back vintages!
Cayuse is a distinguished winery located in the Walla Walla Valley, renowned for its focus on biodynamic farming and its specialization in Rhône grape varieties, particularly Syrah. Established in 1997 by Christophe Baron, a Frenchman from a Champagne-making family, Cayuse has become notable for its highly acclaimed wines that often receive top ratings from critics.
Cayuse farms five vineyards spread across 47 acres, featuring a unique stony soil that contributes significantly to the distinct minerality and identity of its wines. The vineyards are planted with a variety of grapes including Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Grenache, Tempranillo, and Viognier. Each vineyard—such as the Cailloux, Coccinelle, and Armada—produces specific wines that highlight the terroir's unique characteristics.
