The 1998 exhibits a dark plum/purple color along with an extraordinary perfume of liquid minerals, cassis, black cherries, tobacco, spice box, and vanillin. There is fabulous density on the palate, high tannin, admirable concentration, and a structured finish. This Rioja requires 3-5 years of cellaring, but appears to be the finest cuvee yet produced by this estate. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2020.
